Some folks like to subvert expectations by creating an evil Santa Claus. To me, that undercuts the spirit of the season a bit too much.

Instead, I'm going to stat up Saint Nicholas as an ally NPC, using a monster stat block just because it's frankly easier when running an NPC.

Saint Nicholas runs an orphanage and monastery deep in the cold north of the continent. Known far and wide as a jolly, generous old man, few know of his alter ego.

Saint Nicholas's love of children has given him a special bond with his god. When children are in danger, Saint Nicholas receives a vision, whereupon he quietly leaves his monastery in the hands of his elven assistants for a few days on a "mission," taking only a large sack on his oversize reindeer mount.

Art of Saint Nicholas

Within the sack are a huge axe and horned helmet. When he dons the helmet, Saint Nicholas is transformed into a muscled avenger who calls himself the Chosen One and rescues or avenges children from those who mistreat them.

Many an abusive adult has been shocked to see a heavily muscled, shirtless old man charge at them on a massive reindeer, the grimly determined man swinging a massive glowing battleaxe.
